Your Lawn – September

Autumn will be here on the 22nd! Leaves will be changing and the temperatures will hopefully cool down. Spending time outdoors will be much easier in the cool of the evenings.

This is a perfect month to concentrate of conserving water. It is a great way to help the environment and your water bill. Instead of using the hose to wash off the driveway or deck, use a broom or an electric blower. This way you still get the wonderful time outdoors, but you are helping the water supply.

If you have Peonies with a smaller growth happening at the bottom, it may be time to divide them. It is best to do this in the fall because they will be finished with the years growth.  Make sure the bud “eye” is at ground level or slightly higher. This will provide you with new plants for next season.

Don’t forget that we have our own fall tradition happening here at the Garden. The Scarecrow Trail is underway! The Scarecrow Trail will have weekend hayrides, a sorghum maze, and lots of family fun. Come by and visit in the cooler weather, enjoy all our community scarecrows, and support your local Garden!

Lawn Tip: Fescue Lawns should receive their first application of Nitrogen fertilizer, 1lb. per 1,000 sq. ft.
