Thank you for your interest in the Docent Program at Huntsville Botanical Garden. Without dedicated volunteers, the Garden would not be able to offer guided tours!

As a Garden trained tour guide, or Docent, you will be a primary contact for students, teachers, garden clubs, professors and adult groups. In fact, more than anyone else, the Docent represents the Garden to visitors taking guided tours. It is the Docent who provides the personal touch and attention to what is often a young person’s first experience in a public garden with the potential to initiate lifelong interest in nature and gardening while leading engaging and interactive tours!

During Docent training you will learn about the Garden, its history, plant collections and special exhibits. You will not be expected to know everything or even to become an expert! Docent training will prepare you to provide engaging and quality education to all guests, while demonstrating a desire to advance the Garden’s mission. You will be trained to stimulate curiosity and to promote lifelong learning and to encourage fresh ways of thinking as you interact with a group. As a Docent you will help visitor’s make connections between their lives and STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math).

Docent Training Schedule:
Sunday, February 4, 11, 18, 25
1:00-4:00 pm
