volunteers awarded for service

 On Thursday, March 29, 2012 one of the Garden's most treasured volunteers, Joan Jones, was honored at  Dot's Greenhouse with the Jean Lee Lifetime Hours Award from the Alabama Master Gardener Association.

   

   Joan became a certified Master Gardener in 1988. By the end of 2011, she had reported 11,350 volunteer hours. Joan also has earned the Lifetime Badge, for Master Gardeners who have volunteered for 10,000 or more hours in their lifetime.

On Thursday, presenting the awards to Joan will be Dottye Pierce, Vice President of the Alabama Master Gardener Association, and a past president of Master Gardeners of North Alabama, and Janet Boothe, President of Master Gardeners of North Alabama.

 

In addition, several other special and dedicated volunteers, all from Dot's Greenhouse at the Garden were recognized for outstanding achievement!

The following Master Gardeners earning stars or badges for the number of hours they reported by the end of 2011.

Bronze Star (100-299 hours)  --  Lynn Myers - 116 hours

Gold Star - 500 -999 hours)  --  Judy Johnson - 560 hours

Gold Badge (1,000 to 1,999 hours)  --  Betsy Fletcher - 1,423 hours

Platininum Badge (1,999 to 3,999 hours)  --  Josie Asquith - 3,420 hours

                                                                      Andria Cummings - 2,140 hours

                                                                      Mary Shaw - 2,134 hours

                                                                      Ann Mitchell - 2,025 hours 

Emerald Star (6,000 to 7,999 hours)  --  Jackie Chandler - 6,903 hours    

Lifetime Badge (10,000 plus hours)  --  Joan Jones - 11,350 hours

 

Master Gardeners who are members of Master Gardeners of North Alabama are eligible for the Reach for the Stars program. They receive advanced badges and stars based on their cumulative number of volunteer hours since they took the Master Gardener class.  The Garden is so blessed to have such wonderful volunteers.  We are proud of all of you!
