The Garden Guild Recognizes Outstanding Volunteers

2012 Volunteer of the Year - Carolyn Gandy

Since joining the Guild 17 years ago, Carolyn has been putting her skills and talents to use in all areas of the Guild and the Garden.  Serving enthusiastically, Carolyn has kept busy working wherever she was needed: installing the Rainbow Garden; in the Butterfly House and the Children’s Garden; serving on the Guild Advisory Committee and Hospitality Committee; helping with mail-outs; welcoming new members on the Membership Committee; Adult Education; supplying support to the Garden administration; and even building a scarecrow for the Scarecrow Trail!!! If that is not enough, Carolyn has also helped publish and promote the beautiful Guild Cookbook. One year she chaired the Annual Dinner and another year was leader for the decorations for the Garden Annual Dinner. She has been a big part of the Guild’s Special Events, both with Plant Sales and Galaxy of Lights. Chairing the Guild Hospitality Committee was one of her favorites and for several years she helped decorate for the Galaxy of Lights VIP Party with wonderful centerpieces. If that is not enough, Carolyn served as Garden Guild Vice President in 2003 and President in 2004-2005.  Thank you Carolyn for giving so much of yourself to the Guild and the Garden.

2012 Dot Saunder’s Outstanding New Member Award  - Teresa Lee

The Dot Saunder’s New Member Award is given to a Guild Member who has joined within the past 2 years and recognized as an outstanding volunteer. Teresa Lee is the second recipient of this award. Teresa works hard and always has a smile to share.  In the beginning as a Guild volunteer, she worked in the Children’s Garden and the Butterfly House and served well in the trenches, getting down and dirty. But she is now totally committed to the Guild’s Spring Plant Sale and has demonstrated strong leadership and organizational skills. Such strong leadership skills, in fact, that she served as the plant sale Co-Chairman this year and will serve as the Chairman next year. With Teresa in the lead, the Guild’s 2013 Spring Plant Sales should be the best yet. Teresa, we are so glad you joined the Guild and the Garden!
