Wacky Wild Animal Masquerade Party
Saturday February 2, 2013 10:00 am - 2:00 pm
10 am-2 pm
This children’s book launching focuses on an exploration of the unique characteristics of animals and highlights the latest children’s book Wild Discoveries: Wacky New Animals published through Scholastic Press and authored by Heather L. Montgomery. Every day children hear about habitat loss, pollution and extinction. They need to hear about the wonders of wildlife, the power of science and the joy of discovery!
This book and event show children that
- every year more than 15,000 new species are discovered.
- weird and wacky creatures are still being found - a web-slinging worm, a monkey with an upside-down nose, a frog that you can see through!
- discoveries can be made at truck stops, roadside ditches - even back yards!
- children make these discoveries, too!
Inside activities planned include a combination of educational and hands-on crafts, games and yummy refreshments for children of all ages! The author, Heather L. Montgomery, will be on hand to sign her latest book as she shares stories about recent discoveries of new and wacky wild animals in Alabama and beyond. Children are encouraged to dress up as their favorite animal, or to come as a new wacky one. Thirty-minute guided walks will take small groups of guests through the Garden on an exploration for new animals. Each walk will culminate in the Anderson Education Center Classroom with a live reptile display and a presentation by the author.
Fee: $15 per child (parents free with membership or Garden admission)
(Fee includes a copy of the book)
