About Us

Sustainability

This year we have partnered with the American Public Gardens Association’s (APGA) new program called YOUtopia which focuses on sharing and educating our visitors and staff about sustainable solutions for our environment. The Garden is committed not only to lead by example, but also to continue to communicate relevant information throughout the year with regular lunch and learn sessions, adult and children’s education classes, and one-day symposia.

In the past, we featured sustainability messages in our annual Green U event. We have now expanded that mission to year-round. We have also created a Sustainability Team at the Garden that includes staff and volunteers who are committed to bringing new ideas and spotlighting our Garden’s achievements in conserving resources.

Beginning in February, the Garden is launching our YOUtopia Lunch & Learn series. On the third Thursday of each month, we will feature new topics about sustainability for the home and garden. The dates and subjects are listed under Adult Education. During May we will have a weekly Lunch & Learn series on Solar Energy, presented by the Alabama Solar Association. Lunch is available at Clementine’s at the Garden or bring your own ‘brown bag’ (recyclable of course) lunch.

The YOUtopia logo will be used in the newsletter and on the website to highlight ‘green’ events and classes.
