In mid-December I spotted a red-tailed hawk perched in dense branches near the creek at the entry to the Mathews Nature Trail. It was aware of my presence, but with my standing still against a tree trunk, it ignored me and concentrated on hunting. I had the opportunity to follow and photograph the hawk for over 20 minutes as it flew to four different tree perch locations searching for prey.
