Home Sweet Habitat

Habitats are places where plants and animals live, and they provide what living organisms need to survive. For animals, a habitat provides food and shelter. For plants, a habitat provides the right amount of light and water. You live in a habitat, too!

Think about the resources you have around you in your home and community that help you stay healthy and safe. Draw a map of your habitat and label it. Then, go outside and explore the habitat of another plant, insect, or animal. Figure out where it gets food, water, and shelter. Draw a map of its habitat and label it.

Once you’ve drawn both, compare them to each other. What are the ideal conditions you both need your habitats to provide? What can you do to help make a habitat better for the organisms living there?
