Call For Performers: Spellbound

Spellbound

Event Date: October 16–19, 2025

Submission Deadline: Friday, September 19, 2025
Confirmation: Performers who have been selected will be contacted via email on Monday, September 22, 2025

This October, the Huntsville Botanical Garden introduces Spellbound in the Garden, a spine-tingling, immersive, nighttime experience designed exclusively for adults (21+). As dusk falls, the Garden’s familiar paths will transform with theatrical lighting, immersive scenes, and unexpected seasonal moments. From glowing cauldrons and whispering woods to flickering firepits and golden-lit promenades, each vignette reveals the mysterious side of autumn.

We’re looking for performers to join in on the fun.
Help bring Spellbound to life! As a performer, you’ll step into the magic of the Garden after dark—embodying characters and adding a touch of mystery and delight to every scene. Whether you’re a dancing woodland nymph in Living Earth or a lost soul in Haunted Hallow creating unexpected seasonal surprises, you’ll play a key role in making this immersive experience unforgettable.

Performance Type

Performance Type – Requesting performers to bring our debut adults-only Halloween experience to life. Spellbound is an outdoor experience and all performers will be outside in the natural elements during their designated performance times. This event is immersive and interactive, with vignettes and performers. Choreography only, no speaking parts.

Roles – Non-speaking parts. No interacting with guests (i.e. no touching, no addressing). Ghostly figures who drift in and out of the scenes. Some choreography dance required for Living Earth.

Choose one of two roles.

1. Woodland Nymphs for Living Earth

Location: Wooded path near the Trading Post

Scene: A timed visual performance that represents the unseen life of the Garden after dark. At first, everything is still—light and sound slowly build until the forest appears to stir. The ground pulses subtly through projected wave lighting. As the scene deepens into burnt orange hues and reaches its darkest point, silent performers emerge, camouflaged in natural textures and trailing leaves. These woodland nymphs move like wind through the trees—slow, dreamlike, and hypnotic. They are what has come alive in the Garden’s night. As they return to stillness, the lights gradually shift back to golden tones, echoing a return to balance. Repeats.

2. Souls for Haunted Hollow

Location: Cedar Glade path leading to the Pumpkins and Potions Patch

Scene: A spooky, shadow-filled experience. Skeletal tree limbs and low fog set the stage for ghostly, eerie wandering souls to drift subtly among the trees. Actors may appear suddenly or blend into the shadows. This is not a “jump and scare” experience, but rather a voyeuristic look beyond the living world where the lost souls are not aware of our presence in their never-ending search for…peace? Meaning? Something elusive and unreachable. This area is a sharp juxtaposition from the Living Earth section, highlighting the stark contrast between the living natural world and world beyond.

Performers of all experience levels are welcome. This is a unique opportunity to showcase your creativity and be part of a one-of-a-kind fall experience.
