March 10 @ 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm

More people are growing plants in containers than ever before! Why? Many people are choosing to downsize, urban living is becoming increasingly common, and small space gardening is increasing in popularity. Come join us for this comprehensive class about all things related to plants and containers!

About Bryce Lane:

Bryce grew up in Western Massachusetts, where he discovered his passion for plants and telling others about them, working at a local garden center through high school and college. After earning his B.S. in plant science from the University of Massachusetts in 1979 and an M.S. in horticulture from The Ohio State University in 1981, he came to the Department of Horticultural Science at NC State University as a lecturer, teaching in both the two-year and four-year undergraduate programs. He taught numerous classes, ranging from Plant Identification to Introductory Horticulture, to Garden center Operations. In 1987, he became the undergraduate coordinator, serving the department in that capacity until he retired with 33 years of service. Bryce taught both large and small courses, for majors and non-majors. In the past 30+ years, he has taught more than 20,000 students. He has received numerous local, regional, and national teaching awards and is frequently invited to speak at many workshops and symposia, about horticulture and gardening as well as teaching and leadership. He hosted and produced a three-time, Emmy winning UNC TV public television show called "In the Garden With Bryce Lane" which was on the air for 11 seasons.

Although Bryce “retired” from NC State in January 2014, he is quite busy in the next chapter of his career. He still teaches horticulture part-time at NC State University and also teaches numerous evening classes (in person and now online) at the JC Raulston Arboretum. He is a popular speaker for garden symposia, workshops, and conferences, and also works with NC Cooperative Extension, doing agent training on how to produce effective educational videos. He is also the host of a gardening podcast offered through a local garden center in Raleigh NC entitled Logan Garden Shop Podcast Featuring Bryce Lane.

Bryce has gardened on the same property for 37 years! He and his wife of 43 years, Sue, have two happily married daughters and six fantastic grandchildren who all live nearby.
