Growing Healthy, Stress-free Trees: Considerations for Proper Tree Care | In-person class

Maintaining healthy, stress-free trees in your home landscape begins by following proper tree selection and care practices. This indoor class will first review basic tree physiology and then cover several important aspects of tree care that, if not applied properly, could lead to a tree's decline. Learn about tree selection, transplant shock, soils, watering, mulching, fertilizing, pruning, and tree protection during construction activities. Your instructor will also address some misconceptions about trees and how to avoid some common tree care mistakes.
Additional Information: This class will take place in-person at the Huntsville Botanical Garden in an indoor space. All visitors, staff, and volunteers are asked to follow the recommendations of the CDC regarding face masks/coverings and social distancing. These recommendations may vary based on an individual’s circumstances, so individuals should refer to the CDC to determine what recommendations are applicable to them.

About the Instructor:
An ISA Certified Arborist, Chris Stuhlinger has more than 35 years of natural resources management experience in forestry, tree planting, water quality protection, wildlife habitat enhancement, and urban forestry. He attended Auburn University (B.S. in Forest Management) and Louisiana State University (M.S. in Forestry), and he worked in Louisiana, Maryland, and Arkansas before returning to his hometown of Huntsville in 2018. That year, he began volunteering at the Huntsville Botanical Garden, where he continues to assist with tree-related activities and teach various tree care classes. Additionally, Chris is a volunteer instructor and Board member for the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute (OLLI) at the University of Alabama in Huntsville.
