Monarch Tag and Release

Recurring event see all

September 24 @ 10:00 am - 11:00 am

Each year, monarch butterflies take an incredible journey from Canada to Mexico as they seek warmer temperatures to roost over the winter months. These seemingly delicate creatures fly feverishly on pre-determined migration paths, making quick stops along the way. As part of their journey, monarchs migrate through Huntsville, Alabama, from September through mid-October.

On September 24, we will be "tagging" 100 monarch butterflies (putting a tiny sticker on their dorsal wings) and then releasing them into the Garden, and we need your help! Join us for a presentation about monarchs and their migration, followed by a hands-on tagging of the butterflies. We will even share how you can track the butterflies you tag to see if they make it to Mexico!
