World population has reached 7.5 billion, making population growth and its effects more important than ever. This Population Education workshop is designed to give educators classroom activities and strategies for teaching about population dynamics and related social, environmental, and economic issues. The activities are interdisciplinary and hands-on in addition to being aligned to state and national standards, including Common Core Standards, NGSS, and C3 Social Studies Framework. All educators encouraged to attend (public, private and homeschool).
In this workshop, each participant will:
1. Learn to use a variety of hands-on and value-neutral classroom activities to teach population concepts and environmental trends to their students;
2. Participate in all workshop activities including simulations, cooperative small group activities, quizzes, debate, problem solving challenges, and other experiential learning strategies;
3. Receive a wealth of materials including a curriculum toolkit with hands-on lesson plans, activities, background readings, data sheets, graphs, answer keys, and other resources.
Prior to and after the workshop, attendees are welcome to enjoy the garden or a meal at the Table in the Garden until we close at 7pm.
