Virtual Field Trips

Explore the Garden with your students…from anywhere!

If you are unable to bring your students to the Garden for an on-site field trip, let us bring the field trip to you! The Huntsville Botanical Garden offers virtual learning experiences that make science come alive for students, no matter where they are.

Virtual field trips include an exclusive video with Garden educators and staff as well as accompanying curriculum materials and student activities. All materials support NGSS (Next Generation Science Standards) and STEM learning for students in grades K-8, and all programs are suitable for both in-person and remote learning.

Butterflies and Pollinators
Grades K-8

Meet different pollinators, explore their habitats, and discover how you can help protect their ecosystems! In this 25-minute video, we take students on a behind-the-scenes tour of the Garden’s butterfly lab, Purdy Butterfly House, beehives, and Monarch Waystation. Students will learn about insect lifecycles, host and nectar plants, the role that humans play in supporting pollinators, and more.

The accompanying curriculum offers eight (8) different activities for students in grades K-8, including vocabulary sheets, writing prompts, and a scavenger hunt. These activities can be completed virtually, at school, or in the students’ own backyards.
