Experience the Garden Through Art, Nature, and Imagination

Nature Unframed invites visitors to explore Huntsville Botanical Garden through a new artistic lens. Featuring original installations by local artists, this immersive outdoor exhibit combines sculpture, sound, light, and interactive elements to inspire creativity, play, and exploration for guests of all ages.

Rooted in the Garden’s mission to connect people to plants, the exhibit encourages deeper engagement with the natural world through artistic expression. On display throughout the summer and fall, Nature Unframed offers fresh opportunities to discover, experience, and connect with the Garden in unexpected ways.

Bouquet of Dogwood Flowers

Created by Christopher Boyd Taylor of Huntsville, AL

Bouquet of Dogwood Flowers invites visitors to step inside a larger-than-life arrangement of blooming dogwood blossoms inspired by the Garden’s iconic Dogwood Trail. Combining steel craftsmanship with delicate floral forms, the sculpture creates a space for rest, reflection, and wonder beneath a canopy of oversized blooms.

Kaleidoscope Telescope

Created by Eric Nubbe of Northport, AL

Kaleidoscope Telescope is an interactive sculpture that transforms views of the Garden through light, color, and reflection. Inspired by optical devices and native Alabama plant forms, the installation invites guests of all ages to experience nature from a new perspective through playful exploration and immersive design.

Spiral Power

Created by Ari and Steve Loucks of Gurley and Wellington, AL

Spiral Power is an immersive sculptural installation inspired by the spiral forms found throughout nature — from shells and seed pods to flowers and galaxies. Through woven textures, vibrant color transitions, and an interactive walk-through design, the piece encourages visitors to explore the connections between growth, movement, mathematics, and the natural world.

Unus Mundus

Created by Jennifer Moore of Huntsville, AL

Unus Mundus is an interactive musical installation that invites visitors to create sound, connection, and shared experience together. Featuring sculptural Fungiphone drums, surrounding mushroom forms, and community-made intention flags, the piece blends music, collaboration, and nature into an evolving artwork inspired by the interconnectedness of the natural world.

During the Nature Unframed exhibition, various oversized gilded frames are displayed throughout the Garden, inviting guests to discover nature as living artwork.
