FAQ: Galaxy Walking Nights

Q: Do you walk or drive?

This is such a great question and the answer is BOTH!  Our walking nights are a MUST!  Walking nights begin November 15-18 and continue November 21-26.  On November 18 and 25 only, you are welcome to bring your canine companions to walk the Galaxy of Lights trail!

Driving nights begin Friday, November 29 and continue through January 4. Please note: Galaxy will be closed on December 2 for the Galaxy 5k and December 3 for the Galaxy 3k Holiday Dash. For more Driving Night information click here.

Q: Where is the entrance to Galaxy of Lights?

The entrance is off of Bob Wallace near I-565 on Phantom Rd.  Just look for the BIG “Enter Here” signs. We used to enter through the Garden’s entrance, but it got to be a real traffic nightmare.  The U.S. Space and Rocket Center has graciously allowed us to move through some of their property to keep traffic safe and off Bob Wallace.

Q: How long do walking nights last?

Walking nights begin at 5:30 p.m. and last admission is taken at 7:30 p.m. It’s roughly a 2-mile walk, so you can spend anywhere from an hour or two to walk through—depends on how long you sit for some hot chocolate and cookies!  Walking Nights begin November 15-18 and continue November 21-26.  On November 18 and 25 only, you are welcome to bring your canine companions to walk the Galaxy of Lights trail!

Q: Can we bring dogs to walking nights?

Our dog walking nights are Monday, November 18 and Monday, November 25.  Some of the four-legged guests come dressed for the occasion and only add to the entertainment.  At only $3 per pooch, how can you not bring them to exercise and enjoy the atmosphere?

Q: How much do walking nights cost?

Admission for walking nights are as follows:  Garden Member Adults $10.00; Garden Member Children (3+) $5.00.  Non-member prices:  Adults $12.00, Children (3+) $6.00.  Children 2 and under are free.  Dogs are welcome on November 18 and November 25 for $3.00 per pooch. Garden members, be sure to bring your membership card to get your free hot chocolate and cookie!

Q: Are the paths stroller/wagon/wheelchair accessible?

Yes, our paths are a mix of compacted gravel and paved areas.  There are one or two hills, but every year the number of strollers, wagons, and wheelchairs never seem to mind.

Q: Can you drive through Walking Nights?

Our driving nights begin on Friday, November 29. The only wheels allowed on walking nights are strollers, wagons, and wheelchairs. The walking trail is approximately 1.5 miles with lots of opportunities to stop for refreshments.

Q: Will Santa be there during Walking Nights?

YES!  Mrs. Claus always allows Santa to visit the Garden during Walking Nights! We have arranged for his arrival every evening, but he’s very busy this time of year and needs to head back to the North Pole at 8:30 p.m. WARNING: He knows if you’ve been bad or good…he knows!

Q: Will there be hot chocolate and cookies?

You bet! And even some “spirited” coffee if you should fancy some!

Q: Will the Shoppe at the Garden be open during walking nights?

Sure!  We even gift wrap all your presents for free.  Stop in and see all of our great holiday selections!

Q: Can you walk off the path and take selfies with the lights?

We ask that you please remain on the lit paths.  There are guide wires and posts that hold up our displays that are not always visible at night, not to mention uneven areas that could pose a threat to walkers. We’ve seen some great photos/videos taken from the path.  Please DO share your (on-the-path) pics with us on social media.  Follow us on Twitter (@hsvbg), Facebook (@HuntsvilleBotanicalGarden) and Instagram (@hsvgarden). Make sure you include #HBGMoments and #GalaxyOfLights.  We love to share your photos of people enjoying the hard work of the Galaxy of Lights volunteers!

Q: What happens if there is inclement weather?

Galaxy of Lights Walking Nights will happen rain or (moon)shine. In case of inclement weather, we will change over to a driving night and post 2 hours prior to the start of the evening on our website and via social media.
