Plants of the Past: Historical Uses of Native Plants

In this dynamic lecture course, we will delve into a variety of native species found right here in Alabama, and how they’ve been utilized throughout history for medicinal, nutritional, and cultural purposes. This course will take us on a journey through the historical significance of these plants, revealing their ecological roles and illuminating their relevance in today’s world. By the end of our exploration, you’ll walk away with an understanding of how native plants were used by humans and have a renewed appreciation for the cultural landscapes they inhabit.

About the Instructor:
Karolina is a dedicated educator with 10 years of experience in teaching people of all ages. Currently she is the Horticulture Educator at the Huntsville Botanical Gardens, where she continues to share her knowledge and love of plants with the community. Karolina holds a Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science and Sustainability from Kean University. With a background in hydroponic growing, she has spent 7 years operating a number of hydroponic farms in the NYC and New Jersey, honing her skills in sustainable and innovative gardening.
