Founders Day

Fourteen individuals met in December 1979 to discuss the formation of a botanical garden in Huntsville. Following numerous discussions with the City of Huntsville, the present location was acquired in 1986.

The first gardens were placed on-site through volunteer support and the help of various plant societies. In May 1988, Huntsville Botanical Garden opened to the public. Since then the Garden has grown to 118 acres and more than 100 employees.

Celebrate the Garden’s 35th anniversary with us on Sunday, May 21, from 1-3 p.m.! Enjoy cupcakes and lemonade, and see the plaque dedicated to the 14 garden founders unveiled.
