Purple Martins and Tree Swallows Return to Huntsville Botanical Garden

After wintering in South America, families of Purple Martins and Tree Swallows are returning to nesting sites in the Garden. The Martin Colony of 16 nesting gourds behind the Children’s Garden is hosting about nine pairs of martins.  Tree Swallows are selecting homes from the seven nesting boxes placed in the East Meadow and on the fence line behind the Nature Center. The birds are very active in the mornings performing aerial feeding maneuvers over the East and North Meadows.
